5 Moments to Capture on Your Wedding Day

You spend months planning your wedding, looking forward to the big day, anticipating time with friends and family. And then, when the day finally comes, it all goes by in a blur.

At least that’s what it can feel like! At Legacy Stables and Events, we hear so many brides say things like, “I picked out food I love and then didn’t even eat a bite at my reception!” or “My friends from college came all this way and I hardly got to talk with them.” We know how easy it can be for things to move fast, and that’s why it’s so important to make plans to savor the moment. Take time to embrace the beautiful event you created, one that’s all about celebrating your love.

One way to help slow things down and help you be “in the moment” is to plan for a few special times. Let your photographer and wedding director know the specific parts of the wedding and reception that you want to make sure not only happen, but are documented. That way, even if you do feel like the day goes by in a blur, you’ll always be able to look back at the pictures and have those memories. Here are the top five moments of a wedding day that we suggest making a point to capture, in pictures and in your memory.

  1. Exchange of Vows. Whether you recite traditional vows or write your own, this is the big part of the big day. It’s where the promises are made, and emotions run high. Take a mental note to remember the look in the eyes of your partner as you say those words that will hold you two together for the rest of your lives.
  2. First Kiss. Sure, you’ve kissed before. But not like this! Don’t rush things just because you’re kissing in front of a crowd of people. Take a moment to enjoy this first kiss as a married couple. (And an extra benefit to taking a moment is that it gives the photographer plenty of time to capture the moment.)
  3. First Dance. You’ve practiced for weeks. Maybe you came up with your own special dance or some funky choreography. Now it’s time to show everyone at the reception what you can do together!
  4. Bouquet Toss. Throwing the bridal bouquet is steeped in tradition, and there’s a reason for it. It’s just downright fun! Sure, there’s no guarantee that the person who catches the bouquet will be the next to get married, but it sure is fun to see all your friends gathered around for a chance to get their hands on those flowers.
  5. Leaving the Reception. Some of our favorite photos of the weddings held at Legacy Stables and Events come from those moments as the bridal couple makes their way out of the reception with their friends and family wishing them well. There could be bubbles blown, butterflies released, or birdseed tossed in the air; whatever you choose, it makes for a celebratory walk through a bunch of happy people. And nothing compares to the smiles of joy on the faces of the bridal couple in these moments.

The Runner-Ups for Important Moments

It’s hard to pin down just five big moments of a wedding day. In the end, there are almost too many to count! Here are a few other times during the wedding for you to take a deep breath and savor the moment: The walk down the aisle (make sure to look into the eyes of your soon-to-be-partner in that first moment), cutting the cake, first looks with mom and dad and each other, and all those crazy toasts your friends and family will be giving.

Making sure you capture each moment is as simple as creating a good plan for your wedding day. At Legacy Stables and Events, we’ve helped many bridal couples enjoy the wedding of their dreams.
