As one of the original buildings on the property of what is now Legacy Stables and Events, Grace Barn has a storied history. It has evolved from housing American Saddlebred horses to hosting events. And now, thanks to the renovations completed in the fall of 2023, it is an even more spectacular place for couples to invite friends and family to experience a wedding or for corporate and nonprofit organizations to hold events.
The History of Grace Barn
The barn that is now called the Grace Barn stood on the property when Robert Weisner bought the farm in 2014. At the time it consisted of six stalls and an arena. Weisner added to the existing barn to board more horses, as it was originally used by his granddaughters to train in horseback riding. He added twenty stalls, tack rooms, and a viewing lounge, all the things that were needed to run a first-class training barn.
When the property changed from being a training center to an event venue, the existing barn was renovated. The arena became Cate’s Ballroom, and the original six stalls became offices for staff to work on events and meet with guests. The twenty stalls were easily transformed into what is now the Salem Stallway, a perfect venue for wedding services and intimate receptions. The beautiful tongue and groove woodwork modeled after the best barns in Kentucky provides an elegant backdrop for weddings. The sawdust was removed from the floors and in its place, the stalls were decorated with elegant drapery and greenery. Chandeliers in each stall provide light and a touch of class.
Cate’s Ballroom Gets a Facelift
For years, brides in the Triad have enjoyed beautiful weddings at Grace Barn, many choosing to have a ceremony in the Salem Stallway followed by a reception in the adjoining Cate’s Ballroom. The arena-turned-event venue can easily accommodate up to 500 guests for a dinner, with high ceilings helping make the space feel spacious even for large parties.
As with any establishment, there is always room for improvement, and this fall renovations to Cate’s Ballroom make it an even more exceptional place to hold weddings or other events. Another 25 percent height was added to the existing walls, and the drapery that hides the ductwork was raised even higher. Even though the ceiling itself remains the same height, the additional wall footage gives the impression of higher ceilings and more space. New lighting was also installed to add brightness to the venue. Other touches included casing the metal beams with white sheetrock and hanging new drapery.
The renovations help make Cate’s Ballroom feel like a brand-new space. It’s more open and brighter, making it a great setting for enjoying events and a beautiful backdrop in pictures.
