There is no denying that North Carolina is a beautiful state. From the beaches on the east to the mountains in the west and all of the rivers, farms, and cities of the Piedmont in between, the natural beauty provides many great backdrops for a beautiful wedding celebration. From outdoor venues to farms and barns to elegant hotels, ballrooms, and country clubs, the sheer number of potential wedding venues in North Carolina can be overwhelming.
Luckily, our team at Legacy Stables and Events can help you narrow down the options and help you find the wedding venue of your dreams.
Pick Your Location
Before you start researching specific venues, think about what city or part of the state you want to get married in. If your family always vacationed at the Outer Banks and you dreamed of a beach wedding, you might be looking at a destination wedding to one of the quaint little coastal towns. Or maybe you wanted to have your wedding photographs made against the stunning backdrop of fall leaves in the mountains.
When deciding on a location, it’s not just the outdoor environment that you need to keep in mind. Think about what location is convenient for family and friends to get to to celebrate with you. You might choose to have your wedding in your hometown. Even if you’ve moved away since graduating from high school, it is easy for friends to come back to their parents’ homes for a wedding. Or maybe you choose to get married in the town where you went to college.
Also, consider the proximity of the location to major Interstates and even an airport. You might have quite a few guests who will need to fly into town for your wedding. Raleigh, Charlotte, and Greensboro all have international airports with many direct flights available.
Settle on a Style or Type of Venue
Once you know the city or part of the state you want to hold your wedding, it’s time to narrow down the type of venue. There are so many types of places to choose from thanks to a boom in event centers. You might choose to have a traditional wedding with a ceremony in your church followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. Or take it up a step and have a reception at a different location following a church wedding.
There are also plenty of venues that can accommodate the ceremony as well as the reception. You can choose from anything from a barn to a hotel banquet hall, a country club, or even a restaurant. Not to mention the outdoor venues including parks, farms, and botanical gardens.
Figuring out the type of venue that’s right for you will mean taking a look at what you expect from your wedding ceremony and reception, and what your own sense of style is.
Things to Know Before You Visit
Once you know your location and type of venue you’re looking for, it’s time to pick out a few and make site visits. Before you head out for a tour, make sure you know a few things about your wedding:
- Possible dates. You might have a specific date in mind or just a general time of year. If the venue you’re looking at is very popular, be prepared to be flexible on the date. Or make sure you’re looking early, possibly a year out!
- Number of guests. You’ll need to know how many people you plan to invite to make sure the venue can accommodate those numbers.
- Budget. Having a figure in mind that you can afford will help in figuring out which venue you might choose.
Questions to Ask
When you’re researching possible venues or during the tour, make sure to ask questions to compare places and understand exactly what the costs will be.
- What is included in the fee? Some venues might charge extra to provide chairs, tables, and linens.
- What else is offered at this venue? In addition to a building to host the ceremony, you will need to find out what other amenities the venue offers. Possible amenities could include catering services, audio/visual equipment, and a separate bridal suite for the wedding party to get ready for the ceremony.
- What is the back-up plan in case of weather? For outdoor weddings, you will need to know how the venue can adapt to rain. If you’re looking at a mountain location, ask about their snow plans.
