Planning Tips for a Fabulous Spring Wedding at Legacy Stables and Events

It’s easy to see why poets use imagery of spring to describe love. The clouds of winter give way to cheery sun and blue sky, grass turns green again, flowers bloom, and birds are chirping. It’s like Mother Nature’s invitation to hold hands, go on long walks, and sneak a kiss with your sweetheart.

The romantic atmosphere and backdrop of spring also make it a perfect time for weddings. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan a spring wedding to make sure you and your guests have the best event possible.

The weather is great in the spring, except when it isn’t!

So many brides-to-be envision a spring wedding with bright blue sky and comfortably mild temperatures. And here in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, we do have those picture-perfect spring days. Even if the mornings are still chilly, the sun can bring temperatures up into the 70s (and sometimes 80s in the late spring), and you get the benefit of less humidity than the summer months. You also have more daylight to work with, which is great for getting all those pictures.

However, keep in mind spring is also a season of roller-coaster temperatures, thunderstorms, high winds, and sometimes even snow!

The advantage of hosting a spring wedding in our private wedding chapel at Legacy Stables and Events is that you get the benefit of indoor and outdoor venues. You can plan the ceremony in the open stallway of the Grace Barn, which allows for the experience of the outdoors while still in a protected setting. Enjoy a reception outside on the Legacy House patio with the ballroom as a back-up for bad weather, or plan on a mix of both indoor and outdoor at your event.

Flexibility is the key to a spring wedding. Be prepared: umbrellas for the wedding party in case of rain, shawls or wraps for the bridesmaids can be welcome when temperatures are cool, and sunbrellas at the outdoor seating help protect guests from the sun.

Plan the date carefully

One of the benefits of a spring wedding over a summer one is that you’re more likely to have most of your guests be able to attend since you won’t be competing with vacation season. However, spring is full of special days and holidays – Easter, Passover, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day are weekends to avoid.

Use the season to your advantage – flowers, décor, and more

You might choose to have a spring wedding because you love pastel colors. And the traditional pinks, lavenders, and pale yellows look great this time of year against the background of spring flowers and azalea bushes at Legacy Stables and Events. But don’t let the spring season limit your choice of color palettes. When planning your décor and even the dresses for your bridal party, you could just as easily go with beautiful blues and smokey grays, that blend well with the on-again, off-again clouds of early spring. Or pump it up with bright, bold colors to welcome in that warm sunshine of the later spring weeks.

When it comes to bouquets, centerpieces, and those eye-catching flower arches, spring provides a wealth of in-season flowers to choose from, including:

  • Tulips
  • Peonies
  • Buttercups
  • Hyacinths
  • Lilly of the Valley

You can even choose a springtime menu for guests to enjoy. Lighter entrees such as quiche, fish, and chicken pair well with spring vegetables like asparagus and peas. And white-chocolate covered fresh strawberries provide an elegant addition to the traditional wedding cake.

Most importantly, plan ahead

If your heart is set on having a spring wedding, our advice is to reserve your date at the venue of your choice and start scheduling vendors as early as possible. Spring weekends fill up fast, especially with all those holiday dates to avoid.
