Every season is beautiful at Legacy Stables and Events, but there’s no denying that fall might be one of the most naturally colorful. The striking tones of leaves changing from green to red and gold against the bright blue sky make for one of the best backdrops you could dream of, for the wedding festivities and your pictures.
If you’re thinking of setting a date for a fall wedding, here are a few great ideas to help get you started in your planning.
Setting the Date
Our advice for anyone hoping for a fall wedding is to book your venue of choice as soon as you can, hopefully, a year out at least. There are only a limited number of weekends that fall in those peak fall foliage times from mid-October through early November, so planning ahead is the best way to ensure you get the day and time you would like.
Plan for the Weather
It’s not just the colorful landscape that makes a fall wedding in North Carolina so beautiful, the weather has a lot to do with it as well. In October we’ve lost the high humidity of the summer, but the sun still warms up in the afternoon, making temperatures comfortable for outdoor weddings. Even so, if you’re planning an outdoor wedding you might consider having heaters in the tents and choosing bridesmaids dresses with coordinating shawls to ward off the chill once the sun goes down.
Incorporate Fall Colors
From the flowers and décor to the wedding party’s attire, fall offers up a season where your wedding can blend in with the colors of the landscape. The palette of rich colors offers plenty to choose from, including deep gold, copper, burgundy, rust, and dark green.
What to wear. Consider the type of fabric as well as color when choosing what your wedding party will wear. Think about tweed suits for the men, as something different from the traditional black tuxedo. And bridesmaid’s dresses in soft velvet or thick satin look warm and rich against the fall background.
How to decorate. Bring the outside in! Think about using pumpkins and mums to add a fall feel to your reception. Small pumpkins, acorns, beautiful fall leaves, and even apples can be used to create centerpieces. And seasonal flowers make beautiful fall bouquets. Some of our favorite fall wedding flowers include dahlias, marigolds, sunflowers, and asters.
Serve Up Comfort Foods
When the temperatures drop, that’s the time for warm, hearty foods to take their place on the table. Why should your wedding day be any different? Popular menu items for fall weddings include roasted chicken and smoked pork, complemented with seasonal vegetables such as butternut squash and baked apples. It’s also the perfect time for something like Chef Adam’s smoked Gouda macaroni and cheese.
Get Creative with Favors
Send your guests away with something to remember you and your beautiful wedding day. Fall weddings open up the possibilities for creative gifts such as a s’mores-to-go packet, or small burlap bags containing mulling spices or apple cider mix.
